Connectivity to a Network
From TraCS Florida
There are multiple ways to use TraCS Florida over your agency's network. Our Support team will discuss these options with you. The bare minimum specifications are listed below:
- Agencies must have a network that allows for file sharing between officers in the field and administration and records personnel in the station. This means all computers would need to be on a single network and all machines joined to the same domain.
- If air cards are used to connect to the network, then instead of joined domains, an external IP address for the server will be required.
- Firewall ports for the database will need to be opened, or exceptions allowed, whichever applies.
- TraCS Florida can be configured to work with an Oracle, SQL, or Access database.
- A server with an operating system of 2003 or higher is required.

How It Works
Field units simply write a ticket in their car and "validate" the form when they are complete. This is the simplest, most hassle-free way for field units to use the software, and eliminates the need for officers to enter the station. In addition, field units may request books of numbers for forms from their vehicles. In fact, TraCS will prompt the user when numbers are low, so users can replenish form numbers with the click of one button. Administration in the station can automatically see all forms in the database through the TraCS Florida interface. Statuses are used to differentiate:
- Forms being worked on
- Forms pending approval
- Accepted forms that are ready to go to the state
- Rejected forms that need rework
- Forms that have been automatically sent to the state
- Forms that have been mailed
Coming Soon:
- A new status for forms that have been electronically accepted by the state
- A networked version of the installation. This way, updates to the software can be automatically distributed over the network at the agency level, and at the state level. This means that when your agency makes changes to users, violation descriptions, and more, user installations will automatically be updated. In addition, when there are changes to forms at the state level, your agency will not have to do anything.
